why carlisle?

Well, let me introduce this short profile page with my reasons for building this site. I'm aware of the minor role Carlisle has in the story, but I have to admit I was immediately interested in him, since his first appearence.
There isn't much, in terms of content, to develop, but I'll try my best to make justice to this exceptional character.

carlisle

Name: Carlisle Cullen
Date of birth (human): 1640s
Date of Change (vampire): After 1663 when he was 23 years old.
Birthplace: London, England.
Group/Alias: Stregoni Benefici.
Status: Vampire.
Current Occupation: Doctor, due to his developed immunity to the scent (and attraction) of human blood.
Family: Esme (wife), Edward, Emmet, Jasper, Alice and Rosalie (adopted sons and daughters).
Appearences: Slight but muscular, Carlisle looks like a model because his beauty is "perfect". He has blond hair, golden to black eyes (as all vampires, the color change as they needs to feed themselves), he is six foot two inches and he looks accordingly to the age in which he was "changed". He was 23 and he will always look as a person of that age. His beauty is so pure and spectacular that everybody is completely drawn by it, even his colleagues at works can find difficult working with him, because they are all distracted by his charismatic and perfect appearences.
Personality: Carlisle is a quite person with a certain prediliction for helping people in needs, probably justified by his strong compassion trait. He has a strong faith on both humans than vampires, because he believes they can cohexist, despite their different nature. This belief is also characterized by his will to not hurt humans, making animals his source of food, or his will to heal and help them as he works as a doctor in the local hospital of Forks.
Despite being so "young" he really loves his children and his family, making Esme the center of his universe, the one who can really fill his existence.
Carlisle has also a strong will because he can easilly suppress his temptation to drink blood, despite its scent which is really attractive for vampires like him.
Background: Carlisle was born in a time of instability and religious persecutions as the son of an Anglican pastor, with a certain attitude to "eradicate" evil. He was soonely put in his same position which consisted in hunting all those who where considered "monsters" like witches, vampires and werewolves, although his nature was against it and he wasn't fond of killing living creatures. But he was smarter than his father and he was able to really find some vampires in London's sewers. He set some traps with the attempt to chase them and he was appearently successful because he was able to catch one. He was too carefree and thinking that his enemy was too hungry to think rationally, he attacked him but failed. He was badly wounded but wasn't killed as his companions.
Carlisle wasn't sure what it would be of him, because he was sure that something changed inside him and he was ready to accept that change. He tried to hide that process to his father, and he crawled himself into a cellar for the three days needed to his transformation.
He never lost his consciousness but he felt into depression because he was complitely disgusted of himself. He tried several times to commit suicide by jumping from great heights or drowning in the ocean or even by starvation. as he was dying because of thirst he found out that he could sustain himself by killing animals and drinking their blood, accepting in this way his new life and the opportunity of surviving without sacrificing innocents. carlisle accepted his destiny and he travelled around Europe to continue his studies. He went to Italy, to Volterra specifically, where he met the Volturi clan, leaded by the most powerful and ancient vampires: Aro, Caius and Marco. They were civilized, refined and elegant instead of being beasts like those he knew in England and he was really fascinated by them. He lived with them for a while and he always resisted to their acts of persuasion, because they still were vampires only interested in human blood and Carlisle couldn't reject his beliefs and attack those he sweared to not harm. He moved to the USA at the beginning of the 20th century and he stayed in Chicago for a while (or at least until people believe he is reaching the age of 35, the maximum age he is presumed to be before leaving for somewhere else) in the period in which a terrible influenza epidemy hit the town killing thousand of people. He happened to treat a mother with his children, both condamned to an imminent death. The woman begged Carlisle to save her child, as she was conscious of the fact that he was somehow special and had the powers to save him. Carlisle was frankly undecided but he accepted her request because he couldn't bare his loneliness anymore. He soon changed Edward, his first companion and moved away with him. In 1921 they where in northern Wisconsin, where Carlisle met again Esme, a young girl he happened to treat years ago for a broken leg. He rescued her as she was committing suicide because of the loss of her child. He was moved by compassion and decided to change her, to give her a second chance. After a few they fell in love and decide to legally marry. Carlisle was then decided to find a companion for Edward and as he found Rosalie he changed her as well, although Edward never felt love for her. He later changed Emmet, because of Rosalie's request and he finally accepted both Alice than Jasper in his family, although they weren't changed by him but they were both interested in his living style. In 1936 Carlisle and his family reached a compromise with the Quileute, an indian tribe living in Forks. They allowed the Cullen to live there as long as they didn't attack or harm humans. They stayed there for a few years than they moved around until they came back, and at the beginning of the first book they were living there for about 2 years.
